    How is your school coping with remote learning as we move through Term Three 2020?

    This webinar provides three different Victorian perspectives:

    • a regional school
    • a metropolitan school in Melbourne's Inner North
    • a Visiting Teacher supporting schools to provide accessible remote learning


    Agenda

    • Lavers Hill K-12 College invested a substantial amount of money to purchase ICT to allow every student to have a laptop. 

      How did the school adapt to the sudden change by preparing staff before lockdown? How did teaching staff get creative in using ICT to do effective online learning programs. What challenges did they deal with, and what was the response from the students' communities?

    • Fitzroy Primary School managed to get all the families in their locked down area online.

      Hear about some of the obstacles that presented themselves including; Technology, language and community suspicion.

    • Jeremy Brett works with the Visiting Teacher Service Team (DET – NWVR) supporting mainstream schools in the Northern suburbs that have students with a hearing impairment. 

      Jeremy will be giving some examples and ideas of how to improve inclusion during remote and flexible learning for students with a hearing loss or disability and/or language difficulties.


    About the presenters

    Vince Tee is a secondary science/maths teacher who has previously taught at both public and private independent schools in Canberra and Melbourne. He has made a permanent sea change to live along the Great Ocean Road in 2020 and currently teaches at Lavers Hill K-12 College, a regional public school in the Otway region, where he is also working in the role of Instructional Leader to lead the implementation of Professional Learning Communities. He is excited to be working with enthusiastic staff members and utilising innovative remote/online learning model to provide quality education for students in the Otway region.

    Vince recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Educational Research, Melbourne University, with a special research interest in student self-efficacy and formative assessment. He is currently completing a Master of Education with a specialisation in Assessment and Pedagogy in Melbourne University.


    Nicholas Smith was the Assistant Principal at Fitzroy Primary School from 2015-1019, and is currently the Numeracy Specialist and Grade 2/3 Teacher. He has been the Art, Science, PE and IT teacher at the school as well as the grade 6 teacher for 7 years. Nicholas was also the coordinator and administrator of the school's PMSS (Primary Mathematics and Science in schools program) resulting in being asked to present at the Department of Education and Training as the school lifted Numeracy outcomes against like schools across the state. Nicholas came to teaching from another profession and was a student teacher at FPS.


    Jeremy Brett is currently working for the Visiting Teacher Service team (DET – NWVR) supporting mainstream schools in the Northern suburbs that have students with a hearing impairment. He is a qualified teacher of the deaf with a strong commitment for using technology to enhance learning and developing inclusive classrooms. Jeremy has been working in education since 1990 including 20 years at the Victorian College for the Deaf as an ICT coordinator amongst other roles.
