This webinar will feature a discussion between two of the writers of the Digital Technologies learning area of the Australian Curriculum. James Curran and Paula Christophersen will discuss the underlying rationale, aims and structure of the curriculum. They will also reflect on their impressions of the implementation of the curriculum so far and share resources and opportunities to learn more through organisations like the Australian Computing Academy.
This session will be moderated by Melinda Cashen, President of DLTV.
About the presenters:
James Curran is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Technologies, University of Sydney. He is Director of the National Computer Science School, the largest computer science school outreach program in Australia. Last year, over 10,000 students and teachers participated in the 5-week NCSS Challenge. James is a co-founder of Grok Learning, an Edtech startup that aims to children everywhere to learn to code. He was a writer on the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies, the new national computing curriculum. In 2014, James was named ICT Leader of the Year by the ICT Educators of NSW and the Australian Council for Computers in Education.
Paula Christophersen was the Digital Technologies Curriculum Manager at the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Centre, responsible for managing the associated curriculum from Foundation to Year 12.
Paula has been actively involved as a co-writer of the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies, and a co-writer of the Australian Curriculum: ICT as a general capability. She has contributed to a range of educational forums that focus on Digital Technologies curriculum including the national Coding across the Curriculum project as well as a member of the national steering group for the National Assessment Program for ICT Literacy.
Paula is a life member of Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria, was awarded the Dorothy Hoddinott medal for outstanding lifetime contributions to subject associations by the Australian Professional Teachers’ Association in 2014 and in 2017 received the ISTE ‘Making it Happen’ award.
