This full day event hosted in Victoria's South West Region brings together teachers and curriculum leaders to discover ways to implement Digital Technologies and ICT capabilities in Primary and Secondary schools, as well as a virtual session on cybersecurity careers and classroom resources.
Catherine Newington from the Australian Computing Society will give practical examples for addressing both the Digital Technologies curriculum and ICT capabilities in Primary and Secondary classroom contexts. She will showcase samples of ideas and lesson ideas taken from a series she has produced for DLTV in cooperation with other subject associations, DigiTech and ICT Across The Curriculum.
Sam Kingsley from The Brainary will show you practical examples of how robotics hardware and software can be used in classrooms and across learning areas.
All participants will receive a USB with worthwhile resources and have post workshop access to contact Catherine and Sam for further support after the event.
Finally, Tim Edwards will present virtually to provide a brief overview of the Australian Signals Directorate’s CyberEXP online career awareness program. This will include background information on ASD’s mission, a program overview, importantly its application in the classroom, the instructor dashboard and resources for teachers.

Who Should Attend?
About the presenters
Catherine Newington is the ICT Educator Specialist at Australian Computing Society. She leads the ACS national program to support schools to implement the Digital Technologies Curriculum. Working with schools she creates resources that target the curriculum and support content knowledge growth. Lessons promote skills such as authentic learning, global connections, critical and creative thinking, collaboration and student driven learning. These resources are available for free via the ACS ICT Educators Community of Practice.
Catherine is a registered teacher with over 12 years’ experience in the classroom including 5 years as learning and teaching leader. She holds a postgraduate degree specialising in Education Technologies. This has tightened her knowledge of how pedagogical practices influence the potential of technology in education.
Sam Kingsley is the Head of Technology at the Brainary and Qualified STEM Educator.
The Brainary is a supplier of education technology in Australia and New Zealand. Sam’s role focuses on the implementation of the Brainary’s robotics within Australian classrooms.
Tim Edwards is the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for LifeJourney International, joining the organisation in 2016. His primary focus is working with corporate, university and government partners to develop innovative programs that inspire the next generation to pursue careers in STEM. Tim is passionate about helping students understand STEM career pathways. Tim serves as the Project Manager for the Australian Signals Directorate CyberEXP program.
Tim previously served as Chief Program Officer at STEMconnector, a US based consortium of companies, universities, non-profit organizations and government entities committed to furthering the STEM movement. Tim’s first real job was as a Community Health & Economic Development volunteer with the US Peace Corps in Uganda.
Tim earned a master’s degree in international relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Humboldt State University. Interests include being an awesome husband and father, in addition to sport, current affairs, technology and music.
